Positive Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (PAFRAS) works with asylum seekers, refugees and local communities in Leeds and the surrounding areas.
PAFRAS works mainly with destitute asylum seekers who are homeless, without food or money and prevented from improving their situation.
Since we opened our doors in 2005 the numbers of destitute asylum seekers attending the drop-in has increased dramatically, and PAFRAS currently receives more than 600 visits each month.
During 2009 PAFRAS received
6,466 visits from destitute asylum seekers at its drop-in centres, and provided
1,817 one-to-one support sessions with specialised staff. In the same period we also provided
5,557 hot meals,
3,849 food parcels, 566 toiletries packs, thousands of items of
clothing and many, many
blankets.
So far in 2010 (to mid June) we have had 3,608 visits to the drop-in and provided 3,205 hot meals and 1,823 food parcels. 1063 advice session have been held.
Our aims and Objectives:
- Reduce the effects of destitution and poverty
