Positive Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (PAFRAS) works with asylum seekers, refugees and local communities in Leeds and the surrounding areas.
PAFRAS now works mainly with destitute asylum seekers who are homeless, without food or money and prevented from improving their situation.
During 2008 PAFRAS received
6,112 visits from destitute asylum seekers at its drop-in centres, and provided
1,292 one-to-one support sessions with specialised staff. PAFRAS has also provided
5,610 hot meals, 2,840 food parcels, 800 toiletries packs, and
blankets and
clothing.
The numbers of destitute asylum seekers attending the drop-in has increased dramatically, and PAFRAS currently receives more than 500 visits each month. PAFRAS provides vital services in constrained circumstances with limited funding.
Our aims and Objectives:
- Reduce the effects of destitution and poverty
- Improve physical and mental health and well-being
- Support access to mainstream services and integration
- Raise awareness amongst local communities
